Why juice kale?

Of all green leafy vegetables, kale is the most nutritionally dense. Why is it important? Because we suffer from lack of nutrients in our food. Most of us don’t have a balanced anti-inflammatory and immune system boosting diet. So we get sick often, gain weight and fall prey to systemic diseases…

Our food is also less nutritious than ever because it is grown in deficient soil, stored for a long time, and transported across the globe. So making kale juice from local kale ( or better from your own – read my thoughts on Growing Kale!) is one giant step in improving your diet.

Because even if you cook everything at home, chances are your diet is deficient in those vitamins and minerals that green leafy vegetables provide. In fact, when I entered all my meals consumed in one day into the special program and calculated nutritional content, even my supposedly balanced diet came out deficient. And I am not alone. Many people lack those vitamins that come from green leafy vegetables because that’s the food they eat the least.

Kale juice benefits

  • Besides strong anti-inflammatory effects that help your joints, kale juice works to strengthen your nails and bones. As an experiment, I was drinking kale juice for 40 days, and my brittle nails with white spots grew strong and healthy. No nail care products could produce the same effect so far. (I used kale juice recipe listed below)
  • Kale juice helps to detox your body and boost your immune system.
  • It aids in cancer protection
  • Kale juice protects your skin and eyesight.
  • It helps to lose weight.

Why you need to juice Ginger

Clear your Palate and get ready for some tips on

Ginger Juice!

Morning Sickness

As reported by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologist in 2004, ginger can provide beneficial effects as a non-pharmacological option for morning sickness. Morning sickness, which can affect between 75 to 80 percent of women in the first to the fourth month of pregnancy, can create symptoms of nausea, vomiting, poor appetite and dehydration. Fresh ginger can reduce these symptoms by increasing gastric secretions and calming the central nervous system. Consult your health care provider before beginning natural remedies if you are pregnant.Read more

According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, ginger can treat nausea caused by pregnancy and chemotherapy, and reduces all the symptoms of motion sickness including vomiting, dizziness, and cold sweating. By using the juice as a remedy for nausea, you get the medicinal benefits without the need to digest the hardy fibers of the root, making it easier for your body to absorb.

Ginger has been claimed to decrease the pain from arthritis, though studies have been inconsistent. It may also have blood thinning and cholesterol lowering properties that may make it useful for treating heart disease

Three Reasons To Start Juicing Today!

Dr. Mercola’s Three Reasons to Juice

There are three main reasons why you will want to consider incorporating vegetable juicing into your optimal health program:

A Salad in a Glass

  1. Juicing helps you absorb all the nutrients from the vegetables. This is important because most of us have impaired digestion as a result of making less-than-optimal food choices over many years. This limits your body’s ability to absorb all the nutrients from the vegetables. Juicing will help to “pre-digest” them for you, so you will receive most of the nutrition, rather than having it go down the toilet.
  2. Juicing allows you to consume an optimal amount of vegetables in an efficient manner. If you are a carb type, you should eat one pound of raw vegetables per 50 pounds of body weight per day. Some people may find eating that many vegetables difficult, but it can be easily accomplished with a quick glass of vegetable juice.
  3. You can add a wider variety of vegetables in your diet. Many people eat the same vegetable salads every day. This violates the principle of regular food rotation and increases your chance of developing an allergy to a certain food. But with juicing, you can juice a wide variety of vegetables that you may not normally enjoy eating whole.

What is your defintion of “Soul Foods”?

Posted by J.J. Duncan on October 11, 2011

Many, including, Wikipedia, define Soul Food with an unhealthy caloric intake.  Wikipedia states,“traditionally-prepared soul foods tend to be very high in starch, fat, sodium, cholesterol, and calories — qualities once-necessary for sustaining the physically grueling life. In contemporary times, some traditional-style soul foods have been implicated in the abnormally high rates of high blood pressure, diabetes, clogged arteries, stroke, and heart attack.-—especially those living in the southern and central United States.  An important aspect of the preparation of soul food was the reuse of cooking lard.”

At “Got Juice” Kitchen, we have a whole different definition of Soul Food.  Soul Foods are fruits and vegetables grown by our Mother Earth. When you eat true Soul Food, you are feeding your entire being.  Every time your meal choices include fresh produce (organic, if possible) you are feeding your body vital nutrients.  Juicing is one of the most efficient ways to make sure your body gets its daily requirement of SOUL FOODS!

Left Over Fiber

Juicing creates left over fiber. The question is, what do you do with it?

Do you throw away the left over Fiber? Is there any nutrients in it?

The Complete Book of Juicing states the following as an example:

QUESTION:
When I juice fruits and vegetables, I throw away the fiber, but isn’t the fiber an important part of my diet?
 ANSWER:
Definitely, yes. Fiber is an important part of your diet and you should juice too. Think about it – fiber refers to indigestible material found in plants; it is the juice that nourishes us. Our body actually converts the food we eat into juice so that it can be absorbed. Juicing helps the body’s digestive process and allows for quick absorption of high-quality nutrition. Juicing quickly provides the most easily digestible and concentrated nutritional benefits of fruits and vegetables. The result is increased energy levels.
Juicing fresh fruits and vegetables does provide some fiber, particularly the soluble fiber. And it is the soluble fiber that has been shown to lower cholesterol levels and exert other beneficial effects beyond improved bowel functions.

This post was inspired by a question I received from The Brush.  Yes you can juice a potato and the benefits may surprise you.

The following article was originally written in Japanese. Its translation is presented here without editing. It’s well known in TCM that raw potato juice together with its skin can have efficacious healing effects but organic potatoes are preferable to avoid harmful man-made chemicals)

Raw Potato Juice Can Control Spread Of Cancer Cells*

Raw Potato Juice

(The following article was originally written in Japanese. Its translation is presented here without editing. It’s well known in TCM that raw potato juice together with its skin can have efficacious healing effects but organic potatoes are preferable to avoid harmful man-made chemicals)

“There have been a number of cancer patients who have undergone this type of treatment this year, while several have gradually recovered, to the extent that when some are saved from the brink of death, they have called to inform of their eternal joy.”

Buddhist monk Master Tomizawa, who advocates fresh potato juice treatment, has received overwhelming response in letters from cancer sufferers from all over Japan, therefore this edition will again publish clinical cases of fresh potato juice treatment.

Mash fresh potatoes to pulp and continuously every day drink one to two glasses of potato juice derived from this pulp. This will mainly cure cancer, but recovery cases from liver disease, diabetes, gastric ulcer, kidney disease, heart disease, hypertension, lumbago and sore shoulders etc have also been reported.

Forexample, Mr T had a tumor growth under his ear which was diagnosed to be malignant and which had also been operated on before. He later received radiotherapy, but up to last year, his cancer cells had spread to his lungs. He was diagnosed to have lung cancer at a cancer specialist hospital, and proclaimed beyond cure. Thereafter he started actively participating in fresh potato juice treatment. At present, the spread of his cancer cells is under control and his physical strength has improved, and should be able to return to work.

Eat the Colors of the Rainbow

Author Donald Ahrens in his text Meteorology Today describes a rainbow as “one of the most spectacular light shows observed on earth”. Indeed the traditional rainbow is sunlight spread out into its spectrum of colors and diverted to the eye of the observer by water droplets. The “bow” part of the word describes the fact that the rainbow is a group of nearly circular arcs of color all having a common center.

Being centered and in the present moment will help us make the right choices.  Our descisions effect our body, mind and spirit.  We are mad up of light color and sound.  Light gives us life, color gives us the beauty in our world through vision. Sound are our thoughts expressed. The color you see in all of these fruits is the vibrancy of life.
